Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
- Three years of experience as a resident engineer on roadway, bridge, and transportation construction projects
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
Responsibilities
- Manage, plan, and coordinate various-sized construction projects from routine to complex, including roadway, bridge, drainage, and transportation improvements
- Perform construction oversight, administration, and management duties with full responsibility and accountability for all aspects of projects
- Review, inspect, and monitor projects under contract; resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design plans; recommend methods of resolving complex problems
- Act as the MCDOT liaison with other adjoining communities as it relates to construction projects
- Review projects for design clarity, accuracy, constructability, and bid-readiness
- Perform constructability reviews to identify overlooked issues that increase costs, impair the schedule, and decrease quality to achieve the best bid package possible
- Attend or chair meetings with inspectors, contractors, utility companies, survey crews, material testing labs, consultants, and engineers to ensure a successful project
- Receive and resolve customer issues and questions; provide the requested information; inform customers of the work status of proposed and existing projects
- Initiate the contract process of consultants and job order contractors by creating a scope of work, participating in the selection process, negotiating the contract, and ultimately managing the contract and the work performed under the contract
- Other job duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of professional civil engineering work experience
- Experience on federally funded construction projects
- Experience in review of projects for constructability and bid-readiness
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and/or training in Job-Order-Contract construction
