Requirements
- AAS degree and/or estimating experience
- Limited technical knowledge of manufacturing practices, material identifiers and cost estimating procedures
- Cost control, budgets and forecasts
- Working knowledge of obtaining / using cost data and vendor quotes
- Reading of and quantification from technical documents
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Sound mathematical and numeracy skills
- Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Judgment and Decision Making – Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates customer request for proposal (RFP) and request for quotation (RFQ)
- Determines estimate approach based on type of estimate required
- Create quote/bid and related documents
- Calculates labor costs using labor metrics and historical data
- Coordinates the collection of costing information from departments within the organization
- Obtain quotes from outside suppliers for custom materials as required
- Track all quotes for follow-up.
