Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or equivalent
  • Accredited Medical Technology training program clinical rotation
  • M.T., M.L.T, M.L.S. certification
  • Complex mathematics, reading, writing, and communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Laboratory testing
  • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing while following established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis and reporting, and patient record maintenance
  • Maintain up to date procedure manuals
  • Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment as assigned
  • Perform and verify QC and equipment function checks as required before reporting patient results
  • Trouble shoot and document if these checks are outside of established parameters
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as required
  • Review QC weekly in assigned area
  • Adhere to CLIA and OSHA guidelines
  • Conduct QA studies
  • Maintain records for QC, QA, CLIA, and OSHA as required
  • Develop and implement new procedures as needed
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results
  • Trouble shoot identified problems and either correct or notify supervisor immediately
  • Document corrective action
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of supplies in assigned areas
  • Cross train other testing personnel as needed
  • Process specimens as needed
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area
  • Attend annual OSHA training sessions
  • Adjust work schedule and hours as required
  • Receive supplies
  • Attend QC/QA meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and speed
  • Ability to calmly communicate with and accept criticism from demanding nurses, physicians, and patients
