Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Significant wet-lab training either during or after their degree
- Evidence of achievement
- Strong skills in organization
- Attention to detail
- Interpersonal communication skills (including giving and receiving feedback)
Responsibilities
- Culture commensal Clostridia using an anaerobic chamber and/or culture tubes
- Perform a variety of growth, biochemical, and molecular assays (potentially including “-omics” techniques like metabolomics and RNAseq)
- Process and analyze the resulting data and prepare it for publication
- Media preparation and assisting with glassware
- Maintaining stocks and inventory
- Ordering supplies and reagents
- Participating in lab meetings
- Learning relevant literature
- Maintaining an excellent record of lab safety
- Training new lab members (e.g. undergraduates, rotating graduate students)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a microbiology or molecular biology research lab
- Prior experience with microbiology (especially culturing anaerobes)
- Experience with modern molecular and/or “-omics” methods
