Requirements
- 3+ years of direct experience inspecting composite materials in the aerospace industry.
- Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing processes including ply layup, autoclave/oven cure, vacuum bagging, and bonding.
- Familiarity with AS9102 FAI (First Article Inspection) processes.
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings, layup charts, and specifications.
- Visual acuity and inspection capability for complex composite geometries and surface conditions.
- Proficiency with basic inspection tools and documentation procedures.
- Familiarity with precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Some familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Ability to work independently at supplier sites and deescalate workplace conflicts effectively.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-process, final, and first article inspections (AS9102) of aerospace composite parts and assemblies.
- Inspect composite materials (i.e., carbon fiber, fiberglass, honeycomb, and bonded assemblies).
- Identify and document composite-specific defects such as delamination, voids, bridging, porosity, and FOD.
- Review and verify traveler paperwork, ply layup charts, cure reports, and material traceability records.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using inspection aids, depth gauges, and laser alignment tools.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, and AS9100/AS9102 quality standards.
- Accurately complete inspection reports and maintain proper records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working with top-tier aerospace composite suppliers or OEMs.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical inspection of aerospace components.
