Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship program or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating and air-conditioning or refrigeration AND two years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR Four years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial HVAC-R systems, including diagnosing and calibrating system components such as thermostats, sensors, motors, and controls;
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and codes, with ability to perform electrical work;
  • Experience supervising or leading work crews, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and enforcing safety protocols in a work environment;
  • Experience training others in trade skills or work procedures, including preparing and delivering hands-on instruction in safe and efficient maintenance practices;
  • Familiarity with facility work order systems or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), with the ability to track, prioritize, and document repair and maintenance activities;
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow institutional safety and security procedures, including conducting area searches and maintaining tool control in a correctional or secure facility;
  • Experience managing maintenance inventories, including tracking tools, parts, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prioritize facility maintenance and repair projects, ensuring safe and efficient operation of HVAC-R systems and related infrastructure.
  • Perform hands-on trades work, including electrical, mechanical, and control systems repair, while also managing project logistics like permits, estimates, and inventory.
  • Supervise and instruct AICs—teaching them technical skills, enforcing safety and security protocols, and preparing them for future employment.
  • Oversee daily workflows, maintain tool and equipment records, and help keep the Central Distribution Facility running smoothly and securely.
