Requirements
- Completion of a medical degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in providing clinical services to patients.
- Experience in organizations whose scope includes ambulatory care.
- Currently licensed in Kentucky to provide medical services to patients or eligible to obtain Kentucky licensure within 90 days of hire date.
Responsibilities
- Serves as lead physician and provides clinical services for a multi-faceted student patient population that includes making autonomous medical decisions responsive to the presenting patient’s needs.
- Supervises and facilitates a team of medical service providers (Physician, nurse practitioners, nurses, etc.) to meet the needs of students and campus stakeholders.
- Directs the development and implementation of short and long-range strategic plans for the health center which are consistent with its Mission and Vision, the Mission and goals of the Division of Student Affairs, and those of the University of Louisville.
- Provides strategic vision, leadership, and organizational and administrative oversight to Campus Health Services.
- Ensures that primary care, occupational health, and psychiatric services are provided to students and trainees on Belknap and Health Sciences campuses.
- Serves as a critical member of the Student Wellbeing Group that is comprised of units reporting to the AVP for Student Wellbeing including Campus Recreation, Campus Health, and the Student Counseling Center.
- Establishes and maintains strong, productive collaborative relationships with the Student Counseling Center, Campus Recreation, all other departments within Student Affairs, and stakeholders on the HSC campus and across the university.
- Maintains contacts with students on a regular basis through such opportunities as the meetings and on-campus student events.
- Collaborates with key administrative and other colleagues across campus as necessary in the provision of health-related consultation services and public health functions.
- Directs the fiscal operation of the health center to include the development of a long-range financial plan, an annual revenue and expense budget, and the ongoing monitoring of its implementation.
- Develops proposals for modifications in the health fee as needed to support sound fiscal operations.
- Directs the evaluation and planning processes required to ensure that facilities as well as medical and other equipment are appropriately budgeted and maintained to support the scope of services provided and the volume of students served.
- Develops operational objectives and metrics to measure them and ensures that they are met.
- Provides oversight for budget, revenue, fee structure, procurement, insurance rates/revenue, and revenue projections.
- Engages with vendor(s) to ensure that students needing to purchase insurance have adequate coverage with reasonable rates and oversees the student health insurance bidding process.
- Manages activities of the Campus Health Clinic including patient intake, staff workflow, staff assignments, and emergency response.
- Maintains personal knowledge base and credentials as well as up-to-date knowledge of the medical and referral resources available to serve students and nurtures an effective working relationship with key administrators and/or providers in Campus Health.
- Collaborates effectively with senior leadership (Deans, VP’s, Directors) and stakeholders such as UofL Health, UofL Physicians Group, etc.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with university employees, faculty, staff, family members, and the Louisville community.
- Provides a learning environment which fosters the personal and professional development of both staff and students.
- Develops learning objectives and monitors progress and efficacy of efforts toward achieving them.
- Directs the human resource function in a manner which ensures that the appropriate mix of qualified personnel are employed in sufficient numbers to support the health center mission, scope of services provided, and volume of students served.
- Ensures that primary care, occupational health, and psychiatric services are provided to students and trainees on Belknap and Health Sciences campuses.
- Consistently demonstrates an understanding of the importance of service excellence in the work of the Health Center, with both internal and external customers.
- Serves on university and division committees and other groups as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ensures compliance with Board of Trustees and University policies as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Engages Campus Health staff in a continuous improvement process relative to the patient experience and to meet the requirements University privacy compliance regulations, and privacy requirements of applicable federal and state laws.
- Ensures that national accreditation standards for American Association of Ambulatory Healthcare Centers (AAAHC) are met.
- Ensures that policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines which guide the delivery of all clinical services are adequate in scope, represent state of the art knowledge in the field, and are easily accessed by clinical staff.
- Ensures that health records are accurately maintained in manner that meets all requirements of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Collaborates to provide support for Environmental Health and Safety initiatives, hazardous materials response, workers compensation, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a college health setting.
- Leadership experience in a Campus Health/Student Health or comparable clinic environment.
- Working knowledge of and active involvement with the ambulatory care accreditation standards and survey processes of either the Joint Commission or Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health.
