Requirements

  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one state are required.
  • An undergraduate or advanced degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of law firm or corporate law department experience is required.
  • Background in computer and software technology, including experience drafting and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate with and positively engage their clients is essential. Must be able give well organized, thoughtful presentations to management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to development and engineering teams for patent mining of innovative ideas, working with patent committees, managing the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, and other patent portfolio development activities.
  • Regularly make presentations and interact with the business about intellectual property legal matters including patents, open source and standards.
  • Provide a full range of support functions related to open-source software, including vetting proposals to use open-source software and to contribute to and/or create open-source projects, and helping to develop and enforce open-source policies for the company.
  • Provide due diligence and technical support to Dell’s patent litigation team, including providing support for activities before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”).
  • Conduct due diligence supporting Dell’s patent licensing matters and engage in active negotiation of patent licenses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Admission to practice before the USPTO is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in patent litigation support, including activities before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”), along with technology license drafting and negotiations.
