Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required.(Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in project controls, cost control or accounting.
- Knowledge of project controls best practices in oil & gas, power, or other similar process related industries.
- Strong familiarity with project, maintenance and turnaround planning and general maintenance work practices.
- Strong communicator with good written and verbal communications skills.
- Proficient with computers and skilled in Microsoft Office – Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Outlook, Teams, etc.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Responsibilities
- Performs project setups and management of work orders and forecasts using Marathon’s integrated tools.
- Ensures work breakdown structures (WBS) and other coding is aligned with project budget and schedule.
- Supports the maintenance budget review process and assists in data gathering for the refinery’s rolling 5-year project budget portfolio and 10-year budget for maintenance.
- Updates maintenance forecasts for the budgeting process and manages historical cost data, ensuring data is available for future budgeting.
- Provides project controls support leading up to and during site turnaround and major maintenance events.
- Works with outside contractors to ensure cost control expectations and deliverables are met via facilitating project controls workshops and participating in contractor meetings.
- Participates in contractor bid reviews, performs bid analysis and consulting on awards. Prepares procurement commitment status reports and analyzes purchase order funds availability through year end.
- Reviews cost estimates and develops the control budgets from these estimates.
- Works with the maintenance team to establish planned cash flow/forecast of overall cost and schedule.
- Calculates monthly accruals and forecasts, generating accurate and timely reports and communicating them to the accounting department and other stakeholders.
- Audits data and ensures compliance with settlement rules, per cost consistency guidelines.
- Understands scheduling progress reports and performs risk and performance analysis, communicating cost and/or schedule exposure to project management.
- Confirms cost reports are fully integrated with site and corporate reporting systems.
- Ensures final reporting and closeout process is completed in a timely manner.
- Interfaces routinely with various internal and external team members to promote effective utilization of project control functions, gather information, identify and communicate issues, and resolve challenges.
- Conducts one-off, weekly, and monthly cost meetings with Maintenance, Engineering, Accounting and other stakeholders.
- Provides team with forward-looking information identifying expected performance and comparisons against performance targets. Is an active team member providing relevant input and analysis to supervisor and team to facilitate timely decision making.
- Analytical knowledge and ability to utilize the prescribed systems, ensuring that the data contained within is current and accurate. Brings forward new and innovative ideas that improve existing processes and methodologies for solving complex project problems.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, project management, accounting, engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance PM module, Primavera P6 and analytical software programs.
- Analytical innovations, software and process improvements experience.
