Requirements

  • Minimum eighteen months experience at a Material Handler I level in areas of material handling, supply, distribution, inspection, QA, or related processes.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to use DSS and other automated distribution systems used at site.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, identifies, examines and determines destination acceptability of items from a variety of supply sources including contractors, commercial vendors, and other federal installations.
  • Uses a number of measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, scales and meters as well as conversion charts to ascertain dimensions and make necessary computations.
  • Determines the type of item and dimension check criteria using drawings and to use assembly drawings or simple blueprints in identifying parts to determine the completeness of incoming shipments.
  • Maintains status of incoming material through accessing automated systems.
  • Examines items and compares to purchase order or other documents to verify the correctness of the shipment.
  • Assigns sequential control numbers to non-expendable items.
  • Furnishes data to stock control, when it must obtain additional information from manufacturers in order to identify equipment.
  • Informs users of discrepancies and obtains a decision concerning the item’s acceptability.
  • Initiates rejection reports, listing faults or defects attesting to nonconformity with order requirements or other discrepancies.
  • Verifies documents attesting to the correctness of the items specified section.
  • Reports missing parts and discrepancies to the supervisor for correction.
  • Expedites processing of material identified as critical or urgent.
  • Tags rejected material and forwards to temporary storage area, maintaining a control card file on the material, showing location and status of items awaiting disposition.
  • Plans loading and unloading procedures for incoming items.
  • Obtains receiving documents and unloads incoming shipments of supplies and material as necessary.
  • Directs other personnel in carrying out loading operations.
