Requirements

  • HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
  • 1 year recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in histology
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames
  • Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
  • Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
  • Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues
  • Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence
  • Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology
  • Maintains competence in all routine histology procedures (e.g., embedding, sectioning, and routine automated staining) and advanced histology procedures (e.g., immunohistochemistry and histochemical staining)
  • Routine maintenance; slide/stain quality control; and basic troubleshooting
  • Receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimen/material
  • Preparing and or stocking department supplies and reagents
  • Performing quality assurance tasks
  • Producing frozen sections from specimens
  • Conducting training for routine histology practices.
