Requirements
- Willingness to obtain extensive knowledge of NIBRS standards for reporting purposes and to train others
- Knowledge of and ability to use a computer and the required software
- Knowledge of leadership, supervisory and Human Resource management techniques
- Possession of effective oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of principles and practices of office and records management
- Ability to enter data into police department’s records management system
- Ability to meet deadlines and occasionally work overtime
- Ability to be detailed and well organized in an office setting
- Ability to multi-task on a daily basis
- Ability to handle stressful and difficult situations in a professional, rational and logical manner
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions

Responsibilities
- Read police reports and classify per State and FBI NIBRS reporting standards
- Process IBR error report, correct IBR errors and send indicators for corrections as needed to police department personnel and outside agencies
- Assist police department personnel and outside agencies with corrections on reports when requested
- Ensure handwritten misdemeanor citations are entered correctly into the records management system
- Assist front counter personnel with answering phones calls and assisting citizens
- Teach Police Academy Recruits NIBRS reporting standards and how to input police reports into the records management system
- Supervises, schedules, reviews, and evaluates the work activities of report writers
- Reviews report writers’ police reports for completeness and accuracy per reporting standards and policies
- Completes report writers’ performance evaluations
- Maintain report writers’ work schedules
- Train new report writers and keep all report writers informed of updates as needed
- Participates in supervisory staff meetings, coordinates, and participates in job-related training
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience
- Bilingual
- Ability to type 60 wpm
- Knowledge of the Texas Penal Code
- Knowledge of NIBRS reporting standards
- Prior experience with a law enforcement agency
- Two years of experience as an administrative assistant
