Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with knowledge of general GAAP accounting principles in order to apply correct financial statement treatment.
- General understanding of statutory insurance accounting principles / financial reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven organization and planning skills to direct/coordinate numerous activities for internal and external financial statement production and distribution.
- Communication skills to respond to questions and provide quality service to business and other stakeholders.
- Leadership skills to execute activities for certain special projects.
Responsibilities
- Executes relevant financial reporting tasks to support financial reporting cycles with particular focus on supporting individual life and annuity business line/actuarial resources.
- Quarterly financial reporting
- Continuously monitors completion of tasks and modifies calendar as necessary.
- Performs independent analysis and interpretation of financial results used with management and appropriate external parties.
- Coordinates and continuously improves the financial reporting process
- Review daily and monthly accounting activities.
- Provides financial leadership to Finance, Risk & Actuarial team based on inquiries and ever-changing economic and regulatory environment.
- Responsible for the completion of applicable reporting controls
- Responds to inquiries made by internal and external clients, including auditors, state insurance departments, rating agencies and other regulatory authorities.
- Executes work streams related to integration of mergers and acquisitions (including reinsurance transactions and settlement statements) across multiple functional teams.
- Collaborate in the implementation and maintenance of emerging GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting policies and issues.
- Drives work streams related to finance related system implementations and upgrades and other ongoing financial reporting activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- General understanding of critical insurance and actuarial principles and life/annuity business preferred.
- CPA preferred
