Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Course and phlebotomy externship
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program (or 50 draws in previous roles)
- 1 year of relevant experience as a Phlebotomist
- LIC-Driver’s License – STATE_MI State of Michigan Outpatient & Nursing home positions only (Upon Hire required)
- CRT-Phlebotomy Technician – NHA National Healthcareer Association (Upon Hire preferred)
- CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CCMA) – NHA National Healthcareer Association (Upon Hire preferred)
Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain adequate samples
- Supports activities related to laboratory testing (phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer order entry and specimen processing)
- Performs processing functions related to testing including verification, accessioning, aliquoting, processing and batching send out testing, adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing and disposing of specimens
- Performs registration duties applicable to the site/location of assignment
- Adheres to Compliance policies as related to job duties
- Performs observational competency of all support staff under the guidance of the phlebotomy leadership
- Oversees and schedules training of new employees, provides current employees with in-service education on new policy and procedures; may act as a shift leader
- Maintains department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are available
- Participates in Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department
- Participates in Patient and Family-Centered Care culture, Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO), Friend-at-Work program, and assists in training new hires as applicable/assigned
- Participates in staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned
- Efficient use of time in completing tasks accurately and timely; mindful of appropriate use of laboratory funds through purchase requests and the observance of wasteful use of supplies
Preferred Qualifications
- CRT-Phlebotomy Technician – NHA National Healthcareer Association (Upon Hire preferred)
- CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CCMA) – NHA National Healthcareer Association (Upon Hire preferred)
