Requirements

  • 5+ years automotive experience with 2+ in Electric Power (EP) components and/or Systems product development
  • High level of competence in developing customer use cases and writing and comprehending requirements
  • Proven experience in data driven analysis to resolve issues and develop strategies
  • Knowledge of product design and development cycles – Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
  • Design thinking and Systems theory approach to problems and design solutions
  • High level knowledge of component, software and hardware architecture/development/build and processes
  • Experienced in performing system, sub-system, software, and component level DFMEAs
  • High level understanding of hardware and software design and failure modes in electronic modules
  • Working knowledge of automotive component and system level test plans and validation

Responsibilities

  • Lead and define the strategic direction for one or more electric power components such as Fail Operational Power Modules, eFuse-based Power Distribution Units, Redundant Power Sensors, DC to DC converters (12/48V), DC/AC Inverters, etc., ensuring their effective integration into various automotive systems, subsystems and applications
  • Commonize technical solutions and leverage volumes across subsystems, global organizations and suppliers to reduce cost, mass and complexity, while maintaining the safety goals/coverage of all features being supported by the solution
  • Identify and implement relevant technologies for future GM products to place GM in a leading position for product safety and new regulatory requirements (CO2 reduction)
  • Lead innovation and advanced technology development in partnership with suppliers and R&D, focused on cost reduction, mass reduction and fuel economy improvements
  • Develop and implement strategic roadmaps by identifying technology gaps and innovation projects for new LV EP components
  • Convert strategic direction into actionable tactical plans through planning, definition and development of deployable innovative 12V Power technology into various automotive subsystems
  • Support development of serial data and controls requirements, prognostics and diagnostics for continuous improvement
  • Document and comprehend all BOM Row imperatives e.g., piece cost, cost drivers, supply base capability, market trends, vendor tooling, volumes-where used, mass, quality, performance, etc.
  • Lead and support cross-SMT DREs with execution of 12V power global strategies and engineering solutions in a technical advisory role
  • Foster communication and close-loop learnings between regions
  • Develop and maintain commodity specific Statement of Requirements (SOR), Component Technical Specifications (CTS) and global Bill of Material documents
  • Establish overall Sourcing Strategy with the Purchasing Buyer and Commodity Manager
  • Lead commodity-specific technical design reviews, sourcing activities, and baseline DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, safety, diagnostic and QRD teams to define new requirements, use cases and development processes to support EP system development
  • Support the Electric Power GSSLT for definition of future 12V power topologies
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Design (ICD) strategy and ICD templates
  • Manage commodity related PRTS issues, supporting issue resolution and interface with other groups (including VDDV) for faster resolution
  • Collaborate with the Quality team and lead component specific QRD improvement efforts including IPTV tracking, pro-actively driving initiatives to prevent quality issues and reduce warranty costs
  • Support BOM Excellence deliverables for EP components (UPC/FNA guides, modification level definitions, BOM picks, etc.)
  • Resolve complex problems and establish physics based virtual use cases to enable faster & higher quality deliveries to customers
  • Keep leadership informed of new technologies, industry developments, and critical projects
  • Travel to relevant supplier engineering and manufacturing locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Jira, DNG, and FIT experience preferred
  • Masters degree preferred
  • DFSS Black Belt preferred (or in-process)
