Requirements
- Bachelors Degree
- At least 7 years’ related experience working in a trade association or a government/industry relations capacity; experience in corporate grassroots programs is a plus
- Possess strong analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills, the ability to speak and write persuasively, authentically and with clarity
- Strong executive presence, ethical business judgment, and the ability to work independently
- Advanced knowledge of legislative rules and procedures, legislative processes, politics, and government decision-making including understanding complex policy and legislative issues with a strong understanding of the insurance regulatory system
- Ability to develop, organize, project manage and execute innovative strategies and solutions including through: lobbying, association engagement, third party advocacy, etc.
- Ability to deal effectively with high-profile stakeholders such as elected officials, executives and a variety of external constituencies; including ability to influence and navigate political landscape preferred.
Responsibilities
- Partners with internal (Legal and Business Unit leadership) and external stakeholders to implement government affairs strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory priorities
- Responsible for monitoring and analyzing pending legislation, public policy trends, emerging issues, and regulation that has a potential impact on Kemper in partnership with organizational subject matter experts
- Engages with key legislative and regulatory stakeholders as well as trade associations and industry peers for outreach and advocacy efforts to represent and advance Kemper’s business interests including scheduling/maintenance of meetings/calendar, preparing briefing documents, and drafting correspondences
- Provides counsel to the business on government relations developments, trends and challenges and makes recommendations to the business as to opportunities to address such matters
- Coordinates political contributions and ensures compliance with campaign finance laws; prepares political contribution reports for internal and external audiences
- Maintains database of budget and spend related to the Industry and Government Affairs efforts
- Work with communications and digital teams to create and publish content for use on the company intranet site, social media platforms, and stakeholder meetings including but not limited to fact sheets, reports, FAQs, presentations, talking points and other support documents
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in corporate grassroots programs is a plus.
