Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, along with equivalent practical experience.
- Proven expertise in processes such as pressing, welding, magnetizing, balancing, and electrical testing for electric motors.
- Experience in manufacturing key components such as stators, rotors, gearboxes, inverters, and complete engines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop production lines from prototype through to full-scale production.
- Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
- Proficiency in 2D and/or 3D CAD software to create manufacturing layouts, assembly models, and detailed part drawings with GD&T.
- Experience working with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and ERP software, particularly SAP.
- Strong background in statistical process control (SPC) for process optimization.
- Excellent communication skills, both in presentations and written reports.
- Highly organized with the ability to stay focused and effective in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong hands-on approach and problem-solving mentality.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Lead process development and industrialization for electric motor components in aerospace applications, from early prototype stages to full-scale production.
- Drive the development of electric motors, focusing on critical processes including assembly, welding, magnetization, and balancing.
- Collaborate closely with the operations team to optimize equipment performance and provide training on best practices.
- Work cross-functionally with Product Design Engineering, Quality, and Facilities teams to ensure alignment between manufacturing processes and product design.
- Lead Design for Manufacturability (DfM) efforts with the product design team to streamline production processes.
- Write technical specifications for the procurement of tooling and automation equipment, ensuring alignment with production goals.
- Develop comprehensive manufacturing build plans, including line layout, manufacturing methods, part flow, tools, equipment, and precedence networks. Establish an appropriate MBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials).
- Conduct feasibility studies for new manufacturing technologies and evaluate their potential for integration into existing processes.
- Create and maintain detailed work instructions within SAP/PEO, and generate Training/SWI documentation for assembly and installation processes.
- Train and oversee technicians and operators, ensuring effective equipment usage and adherence to safety protocols.
- Design in-house manufacturing equipment and fixtures, including creating technical drawings using NX.
- Participate in early prototype builds to characterize product and process critical parameters, ensuring alignment with production requirements.
- Conduct Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify and mitigate risks in the production system.
- Monitor production metrics and KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions to optimize performance.
- Manage procurement and construction activities, ensuring timely delivery and installation of required equipment.
- Oversee the successful deployment of production equipment by conducting thorough testing and acceptance at both supplier and production facilities.
- Support first-unit builds and testing, ensuring that both product and production systems meet quality standards and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 3 years of work experience, including internships or full-time roles, in aerospace manufacturing engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with PLM software, preferably Teamcenter and NX.
- Direct experience in programming and troubleshooting industrial automation systems, including PLCs, robots, gantries, and other automation equipment.
