Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, criminal justice or related field, or any experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Candidate must pass a background check.
- Knowledge of the techniques and principles of case management.
- Knowledge of the organization and operations of the District Attorney’s Office, the criminal court system and the Victim Assistance Program.
- Knowledge of a variety of human services, substance abuse and mental health agencies available in the community.
- Knowledge of the common emotional reactions and needs of the offender.
- Strong writing skills to assist with preparing reports.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills.
- Skill in the use of common office machines, including popular computer-based word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs.
- Ability to work effectively with the families, friends or associates of offenders in the program.
- Ability and empathy to work effectively with victims keeping them informed (as necessary).
- Ability to effectively communicate with and treat problems of the offender and to set limitations on aberrant behavior.
- Ability to develop cooperative relationships with offenders, judicial officials, county employees and community agencies.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports; understand basic treatment modalities and administer various substance abuse/mental health assessments as needed.
- Ability to compose routine correspondence.

Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough investigations, screening and evaluation of offenders determining appropriateness for acceptance into the Diversion Program.
- Assesses their risk to community safety by using assessments and reports that are available.
- Develops a focused supervision case plan to assist offenders in changing behaviors, helping to lower their risk of reoffending and avoid further penetration into the criminal justice system.
- Ensures offenders compliance with Diversion terms and conditions through; face-to-face supervision, discussing past and present behaviors, setting goals, problem solving, and providing appropriate interventions.
- Reports (non) compliance to Chief Deputy District Attorney or designee as needed; helps to determine the terms of successful completion of offenders in the program.
- Reviews community programs to determine what services are appropriate for each individual offender helping to arrange for specific treatment and education.
- Make referrals to appropriate agencies based on Diversion agreement requirements.
- Ensures that the offenders understand the potential consequences of noncompliance.
- Participates in all staff and program review meetings.
- Works collaboratively with other staff members and other applicable 19th Judicial District and Weld County governmental agencies.
- Maintains accurate and relevant case notes to document offenders work, progress, and attitude.
- Assesses damages and losses by the alleged victim of crimes represented by participants in the program.
- Resolves complaints and disputes and develops a schedule of reimbursement(i.e. payment plan).
- Uses database programs such as Action, Colorado State Court Data Access, etc. to review an offender’s status, and further contact with law enforcement.
- Reviews and interprets information and updates from; drug and alcohol evaluations, mental health evaluations, and other assessments (prepares referrals as necessary).
- Meets with offenders in an office setting, on a scheduled basis.
- Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing, spreadsheet and/or file maintenance programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information as requested or otherwise necessary; summarizes data in preparation of standardized reports; and prepares a variety of documents including case notes, documentation and records of each offender.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of tangible and/or paperless files involving court procedures, supervision agreement items, progress in treatment, and all communications with attorneys, law enforcement, staff and other professionals; files, retrieves and distributes information as requested or otherwise necessary.
- Attends training sessions as appropriate to maintain and enhance knowledge of Diversion and criminal justice system.
- Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks as required.
