Requirements
- A.Baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university
- Successful completion of the Cytotechnology program from an accredited institution
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is required
Responsibilities
- Assists with fine needle aspiration immediate evaluation and procurement
- Performs processing, staining and cover slipping of various types of cytological material
- Performs routine microscopic evaluation of Cytologic smears and cell blocks
- Performs operation and maintenance of the microscope, centrifuge, cytocentrifuge, and all chemical reagents
- Performs clerical duties including entering data into computers, answering phones, and distribution of reports
- Completely and correctly screens and interprets cytologic specimens
- Numbers specimens received into logbook and computer system with proper identification as to the patient and specimen type
- Assists with processing of specimen collected in C.T. scan and frozen sections as required
- Monitors the supplies of the department
- Assists in the orientation of new personnel
- Performs all procedures according to department and hospital policies
- Assists or participates in special projects
