Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP)
- National certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- One year of pharmacy related experience
Responsibilities
- Performs inspections of all medication areas, pharmacies and clinics as assigned
- Inspects assigned medication areas, medication refrigerators/freezers/warmers, and carts containing medications monthly or as directed focusing on drug storage compliance, medication security and integrity
- Documents medication area inspection findings in assigned electronic record keeping system
- Documents medication safety risks in electronic safety event reporting system
- Communicates verbally and in writing with MSUP Pharmacist, MSUP Leadership, MSIC, and nursing leaders as necessary when findings are non-compliant with regulatory standards or medication safety risks are identified
- Attends continuing education programs and required in-services and meetings such as the monthly staff meetings
- Assists the pharmacist in precepting pharmacy students or residents during rotations
- Assists in orientation and training of new personnel in assigned areas
- Actively participates in process improvement and quality assurance
- Assists in cross-training of personnel in assigned areas
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Attend MUSC Health, state, and national pharmacy conferences as necessary
- Complete assigned tasks per defined project scope, timelines, and budgets for implementation. Work to prescribed methodologies for all implementations
- May work on multiple implementations simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- An additional area-specific certification (may include but not limited to state certification, compounding certification, etc.)
