Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience working with gas turbine technology
- Experience utilizing engineering software for design development, including 3D modeling (such as AutoCAD, NX/UG, or similar)
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical design and project support of test programs in the CDT labs, Test stands and Field Engine testing.
- Support precision sensor development including optical technology, traditional temperature, pressure and strain, and other technologies unique to gas turbine validation.
- Create detailed 3D models of precision hardware, component specifications, and drawings, including utilizing PLM for formal documentation and revision control.
- Perform mechanical analysis & engineering calculations of components including strain/stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
- Provide mechanical design and system process review of validation equipment. Review, evaluate, and approve supplier analyses & designs working with Sourcing to ensure cost effective design solutions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local & international codes and standards (such as ASME, ASTM, ATEX, NEC, EU Norms, etc.).
- Be responsible for the safety, quality, delivery, and cost of new or modified designs. Complete design reviews and system development in coordination with the Chief Engineering Office (CEO) and Controlled Title Holders (CTH), including utilizing PLM and DRB for final approvals and revision control.
- Author edits to design practices including CDTDP300 design practice for probe and rake development, also relevant procedures such as TOI test operating instructions.
- Lead the creation of optimized plans including schedule and budget components.
- Supervise and assist with construction/fabrication of new/upgrade sensor hardware & measurement equipment, including machining processes.
- Collaborate with Test Engineers and Gas Power Engineering (GPE) design team members to plan, implement and execute customer tests across CDT facilities.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products.
- Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
- Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
- Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in working with gas turbine technology
- Strong interest/knowledge around measurement technology & metrology for gas turbines
- Experience in measurement technology development including mechanical design analysis of the hardware.
- Knowledge and understanding of gas turbine shroud hardware design, repair and life constraints including thermal/mechanical implications, as well as turbine clearances.
- Knowledge and ability to perform machining processes with machines including mill, lathe, surface grinder, drill press, as well as basic welding and joining techniques.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to assess situations and make judgments based on practice or previous experience
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Good communication and negotiation capabilities, able to interface effectively with other global organizations and external customers
- Previous gas turbine systems test experience such as field and test stand validation testing, turbine equipment outages or other heavy duty industrial processes
