Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years working in Category Management and/or in a role requiring a high level of analytical capabilities
  • Experiences with synthesizing large amounts of data (e.g. Shopper Research, POS, loyalty, etc.) into actionable insights
  • Using knowledge of shopper and consumer to recommend optimal category assortments, flows, adjacencies, cross merch opportunities, etc.
  • Building in-store category innovation into all category leadership discussions (e.g. aisle reinvention, store of the future, disruptive merchandising strategies, etc.)
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Driving strong sustainable business relationships at all levels and functions of the organization and with customers and customer teams
  • Conveying complex issues brilliantly with excellent communication, story-telling, and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert in assigned category and provide thought leadership to customer and internal sales team
  • Use principles of Category Management to inform recommendations for category and brand growth and leverage information to grow customers category
  • Conduct strategic category and channel analyses and reports, incorporating appropriate resources
  • Perform strategic competitive analyses by category and brand to capture trends, opportunities and challenges for core business areas
  • Develop strategic business plans, vision, tactics and strategies for achieving category growth
  • Stay current on consumer trends for various retail channels
  • Use knowledge of shopper and consumer to recommend optimal category assortments, flows, adjacencies, cross merch opportunities, etc.
  • Provide insight and perspective of the various channel dynamics on assigned categories
  • Monitor channel shifting and the associated trends reflected in the marketplace
  • Form perspective on omni-channel purchasing behaviors (e.g. P2P, B&M vs Ecom, site to store, etc.)
  • Understand how online purchase behaviors differ from those in-store and how we can capitalize on those differences
  • Effectively manage workload and partnerships with key stake holders across multiple customers and internal teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a leading CPG company in Category Management, Shopper Insights, Sales or related position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Category Management philosophies, tools and processes and proven record of success
  • Demonstrated success in leading Category Development engagements with a major grocery or retailer
  • Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity with syndicated data and systems, measures and software (e.g. Nielsen, Circana, Consumer Panel, Spectra, etc.)
  • Experienced in space management principles and software with ability to draw POGs (e.g. JDA)
