Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical indirect tax experience gained in public accounting and/or e-Commerce industry.
  • Proficient in English – other languages, including Spanish or Portuguese, advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Tax, Legal, or Accounting; advanced degree is helpful.
  • Extensive knowledge of sales and use taxes in the United States; knowledge of dealer & motor vehicle taxes a plus.
  • Capable of working independently while acting as part of a global tax team.
  • Working experience in multinational environments.
  • Consistent track record of leading cross-functional projects with multiple dependencies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven success in ability to explain sophisticated tax issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience with the indirect taxation trends of the digital economy.
  • Experience interacting directly with US state and local tax authorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, get it done attitude.
  • Confidence, poise, and diplomacy when interacting with all levels of management and tax authorities.
  • Ability to optimally work with various teams across time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Lead various projects and initiatives of our global businesses, as well as lead new country expansions (including Latin America) and M&A integration projects.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with a variety of eBay teams, including product, engineering, legal, accounting, finance, and customer service.
  • Deliver timely and accurate indirect tax advice to business units.
  • Connect with key stakeholders at all levels on statutory and go-to-market requirements.
  • Analyze sophisticated tax issues and provide tax advice on strategic planning initiatives, legislative developments, and other ad hoc matters.
  • Assist with M&A due diligence and integration support as needed.
  • Review legal contracts and agreements between eBay and various vendors and partners to resolve any indirect tax impacts.
  • Handle internal audit initiatives while focusing on taxability improvements and scalable exemption certificate solutions.
  • Build playbooks and memos that detail our tax policy, position, and procedures.
  • Assist with developing training material to be deployed to key functions within the business.
  • Manage external advisors per the needs of the business.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to members of the team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CMI Certification preferred; CPA a plus.
