Requirements
- B.S. degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Emergency Response/Management/Preparedness in the transportation sector or adjacent fields.
- 5+ years of experience in a relevant industry with strong expertise in EHS regulations and compliance practices.
- Experience managing general workplace safety programs, including ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and occupational health compliance.
- Proven experience conducting incident investigations and comprehensive risk assessments across diverse environments within the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and improve vehicle/mobility operations processes for safety, including procedures for testing, deployment, and integration with emerging vehicle/mobility technologies.
- Proficient knowledge of hazards and controls related to garages, engineering labs, high-voltage systems, vehicle lifts, and dynamic testing environments.
- Excellent communication skills for clear and effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working closely with diverse cross-functional teams including engineering, software development, operations, and safety functions.
- Prior certification(s) in RCRA, DOT, CPR, and First Aid.
- Prior experience implementing and managing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Hazardous Energy Control Point Safety Programs.
Responsibilities
- Report and investigate incidents, and manage Workers Compensation and OSHA issues.
- Lead ISO 14001 certification programs, conduct audits, and address findings.
- Develop audit plans, conduct internal audits, and drive closure of corrective actions.
- Conduct routine EHS inspections and resolve EHS related issues in Jira.
- Utilize commercial EHS software systems as a technology solution to protect the health and safety of our people.
- Provide regular reports on EHS compliance activities, risks, and progress toward goals.
- Collaborate on EHS policies including but not limited to IIPP, Workplace Violence, Crisis Management, Business Continuity Plan, and other guidelines for US/UK.
- Conduct occasional travel for EHS regulatory compliance audits and evaluations.
- Manage and coordinate internal and external audits, management review meetings, and projects.
- Conduct on-site meetings with the cross-functional team to address employee safety related concerns, issues, and observations.
- Assist in creating policies, procedures, plans, and training on various EHS topics such as PPE, IIPP, FOG, SPCC, lasers, LOTO, PIT, and wildfire smoke.
- Perform regulatory inspections, address non-conformances, and manage data collection, including CERS, biennial waste reports, OSHA logs, and other reporting requirements.
- Manage contracts with vendors, oversee budgets, coordinate emergency response teams, and conduct regular tabletop exercises/drills.
- Develop and maintain Business Continuity Plans, provide training, and coordinate tabletop exercises with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements, including necessary reporting and creating/maintaining a KPI dashboard.
- Address and resolve safety concerns, establishing and sustaining Lean and OpEx (5S, Kaizen) programs and culture.
- Develop and implement job hazard analysis (JHAs) and applicable EHS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide assistance with the development and update of Woven by Toyota’s Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) via the California Environmental Reporting System (CERS).
- Review and maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library.
- Develop and manage an effective training program for all employees.
- Coordinate and deploy EHS training programs, including High Voltage (HV) training, fire extinguisher training, ergonomics, EHS orientation, chemical safety, hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Serve as a local point of contact for all emergencies, accidents, and injuries.
- Conduct regular audit inspections, draft reports to document inspection findings, and drive closure.
- Ensure material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Maintain records of discharges or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, ensuring all County, State, and Federal permits are regularly updated and stored.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in safety or compliance management (e.g., CSP, ASP, CEM, CEIM) is a plus.
- Experience supporting vehicle operations with a focus on the safety challenges of advanced vehicle development, including ADAS testing and software integration environments.
- Experience interpreting transportation and workplace safety data, generating insights, and developing performance metrics to track and enhance safety programs.
- Experience addressing EHS-related requirements and ensuring compliance at proving grounds or vehicle test tracks, including oversight of testing protocols, environmental risks, and personnel safety.
