Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field required.
  • 3+ years of news experience in a medium to large market.
  • Recent experience and proficiency with newsroom computers, live news technology, and related software required.
  • Candidates must submit reel/link of recent work.
  • Flexibility in scheduling evenings, early mornings, weekends as well as work all shifts in a 24/7/365 breaking news environment.
  • Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and varied hours.
  • Candidate will also be required to join the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local union for the on-air news unit.

Responsibilities

  • An outstanding storyteller and live on-air performer with strong interviewing skills, solid journalistic judgment, and the ability to ad-lib effectively.
  • Investigate, research, write, and report against tight deadlines in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Pitch powerful stories that uncover significant information that will receive attention.
  • Must work cohesively with producers, editors, and photographers to create captivating news stories and features, taped and live, to connect with the viewers and grow ratings.
  • Must be able to work accurately and efficiently within time constraints.
  • Work with social media to attract, inform, and engage the audience.
  • Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate their success at developing and maintaining powerful story source networks.
