Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field required.
- 3+ years of news experience in a medium to large market.
- Recent experience and proficiency with newsroom computers, live news technology, and related software required.
- Candidates must submit reel/link of recent work.
- Flexibility in scheduling evenings, early mornings, weekends as well as work all shifts in a 24/7/365 breaking news environment.
- Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and varied hours.
- Candidate will also be required to join the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local union for the on-air news unit.
Responsibilities
- An outstanding storyteller and live on-air performer with strong interviewing skills, solid journalistic judgment, and the ability to ad-lib effectively.
- Investigate, research, write, and report against tight deadlines in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Pitch powerful stories that uncover significant information that will receive attention.
- Must work cohesively with producers, editors, and photographers to create captivating news stories and features, taped and live, to connect with the viewers and grow ratings.
- Must be able to work accurately and efficiently within time constraints.
- Work with social media to attract, inform, and engage the audience.
- Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate their success at developing and maintaining powerful story source networks.
