Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15+ years of experience in software development, with a strong understanding of cloud-native technologies.
- 4+ years of experience in a management or team lead role, leading software engineering teams.
- Experience with Kubernetes and the cloud-native ecosystem (e.g., Docker, Helm, Prometheus, etc.).
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
- A customer-centric mindset and a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences.
- Experience with agile development methodologies
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of 10-12 software engineers focused on the development and maintenance of the DigitalOcean Kubernetes platform.
- Drive the technical vision and roadmap for the DOKS platform in alignment with DigitalOcean’s overall strategy.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Ensure the team delivers high-quality, scalable, and reliable software.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, SRE, and other engineering teams to define and prioritize features and improvements.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Remove roadblocks and provide guidance to the team to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the Kubernetes and cloud-native ecosystem.
- Advocate for the needs of DigitalOcean Kubernetes users and ensure their success.
- Participate in performance reviews, career development, and hiring processes for the team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience contributing to or working with open-source Kubernetes projects is a plus
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
