Requirements

  • 1 year of MFM sonography in an outpatient setting
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Sonography
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Fetal Nuchal Translucency Certification – Fetal Medicine Foundation
  • Sonography Certification – American Registry Of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • Physical dexterity to operate sensitive electronic ultrasound equipment
  • Knowledge of fetal anatomy and fetal circulatory system
  • Ability to function in a sterile environment during procedures
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to perform work accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Ability to function competently in stressful situations
  • Demonstrates skills needed to promote positive patient satisfaction
  • Ability to work cooperatively with the healthcare team

Responsibilities

  • Operate diagnostic medical ultrasound equipment to obtain images of various OB-GYN conditions
  • Perform transabdominal and transvaginal scans
  • Select appropriate transducer and settings for the study
  • Provide assistance with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villi sampling
  • Review physician orders to ensure proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained
  • Verify all images and documentation are sent to the MFM electronic documentation system
  • Employ sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies
  • Prepare patients and collect relevant clinical information for accurate exams
  • Explain procedures to patients/families and answer questions
  • Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action
  • Identify patient and procedures to be performed utilizing National Patient Safety Goals and HIPPA policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fetal Medicine experience.
