Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience.
- Physical eligibility required for working in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 environment.
- Ability to follow the safety protocols as described by the University, the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.
- Rotate on weekend duty/holidays as scheduled.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic microbiological analysis, including cultivation, isolation, microscopy, and performance of tests to identify pathogenic bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses in various samples.
- Process samples, order tests in COFL (medical database system), and set up microbiologic assays for the detection of infectious agents in animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education to include at least 10 semester credit hours or 15 quarter credit hours in microbiology.
- One or more years work experience in a microbiology lab.
- Familiarity with veterinary medicine.
- Experience with medical or laboratory database.
- Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
