Requirements
- Graduate of AMA Approved Program in Radiologic Technology
- 2-3 years experience as Radiologic Technologist
- 40 hours of specialized training and continuing education in mammography
- Knowledge of breast anatomy
- Need to recognize patients experiencing fear or anxiety
- Needs to be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e. understand the differences of female growth and development, and look for signs of normal aging; degree of understanding and physical limitation related to age
- Good communication skills
- Ability to handle anxious and fearful patients
- Demonstrated technical skills as a radiographer
- Knowledge of film quality control and film processing
- Registered Radiologic Technologist/ARRT
- IDNS License
Responsibilities
- Accountable for coordination of daily operational activities of Mammography Department.
- Assists Radiologists with Pathology reporting in PenRad when necessary.
- Provides input on associate reviews and delivers them with the Manager.
- Assist technologists and students with difficult procedures when needed.
- Coordinates staff schedules and payroll activities in AdvocateWorks including room coverage.
- Maintains a maximum exam schedule with minimal staff hours and manages productivity.
- Approves all PTO requests and provides coverage through scheduling.
- Monitors and documents staff performance.
- Coordinates orientation and training of new staff with competencies, inservices and procedure instruction.
- Addresses all staff concerns in conjunction with Manager.
- Supplies input for policies and procedures in conjunction with Manager.
- Accountable for giving direction and instructions to Mammography Technologists in the execution of present Mammography protocols, also providing direction for nursing staff in monitoring of patients.
- Participates in advanced mammographic procedures as necessary.
- Assures that accurate labels and permanent image identification is followed. In addition makes sure technologists are accurately positioning patients to obtain the most optimal images.
- Assures that technologists adjust positioning and technique for thorough quality exam based on patient’s anatomy and condition.
- Assures that technologists select proper technical factors to ensure appropriate film contrast and radiographic density.
- Assures that technologists instruct patients regarding activities performed throughout the procedure and following exam to make sure all questions and concerns are addressed. Uses AIDET.
- Assures that technologists apply radiation protection to patient in accordance with accepted radiation protection standards for mammography and diagnostic procedures.
- Accountable for maintenance of department compliance with Accrediting Organization and departmental established safety standards to ensure patient and staff well being at all times.
- Completes and /or assists in the completion of required accreditation materials for assigned section.
- Keeps records updated for MQSA and Radiology inspections to include radiation badges and any other required data.
- Participate in all departmental state inspections.
- Maintains and monitors appropriate use of RIS, Radnet, Allegra, Penrad systems.
- Performs and maintains records of quality control monitors according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Comply with mandatory inservices for Fire Safety, MRI Safety, and Universal Precautions; Maintain CPR Certification. Must maintain professional decorum, and adhere to dress code as required by department; no deviations allowed.
- Document and report equipment trouble. Documents all service calls.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance.
- Attends Advocate’s Mammography Council Meetings.
- Assist manager in procuring and implementing new technology.
- Accountable for maintaining good relations when dealing with all persons encountered in daily performance of job.
- Promotes customer driven environment in the Mammography Department. Monitors the use of AIDET. Reviews and acts on Press Ganey Patient surveys.
- Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, cooperation and positive interaction with co-workers, physicians, patients and families. Demonstrates the Advocate BOEs.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, directors and other health care team members to assure delivery of quality service.
- Accountable for obtaining documentation for departmental records related to patient statistics, supplies, patient billing and preservation of patient records maintained in Mammography Department.
- Documents the presence of a physical lump, moles, or other skin lesions with BB Markers, and draws or labels for mammograms breast diagrams, indicating location of anatomical scars, previous surgical sites, or other abnormalities.
- Documents procedure information in the appropriate clinical breast database.
- Initiates the patient charge for services rendered.
- Contacts patients and physicians with priority results.
- Maintain appropriate supply levels.
- Checks the patient’s radiographic history for previous images performed at this hospital, or elsewhere and enters information into Penrad Tracking System.
- Documents patient history and other pertinent clinical information using appropriate forms and computer databases designed for this purpose.
- Secures patient consent forms as may be required; these consents include Pregnancy Consent and Verification, Authorization Form to Release Medical Information, and Consent for Interventional Procedures.
