Requirements

  • At least 10 years of direct or relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education, experience and advanced understanding of the functional area and the market, preferably in Asset Management
  • At least 5 years of experience working on social equality issues applied in a sustainability, investment or active ownership context
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative data and the ability to translate complexities into concrete recommendations for investment decision-makers
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement, preferably in a North American context
  • In-depth and demonstrated verbal & written communication skills – Expert

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investment research to support stewardship, portfolio and business objectives including the development of new investment, corporate engagement and thought leadership strategies
  • Research and write industry-leading thought leadership pieces on emerging social equality themes relevant to institutional investor audiences
  • Represent BMO GAM on social-related collaborative investor initiatives by leading engagement dialogues with investee companies represented in our client portfolios, and support engagement dialogues conducted by investment teams
  • Support public policy submissions on social themes on behalf of the asset management business
  • Build and maintain partnerships with external organizations working on social themes for the purpose of collaborative research, engagement or industry efforts
  • Work with portfolio managers and ESG Integration Manager to support the integration of material and salient social risks and opportunities in the investment analysis process across asset classes
  • Support sector-based ESG research and due diligence to inform investor decision making (not limited to social)
  • Recommend and help coordinate transparent reporting on social impact metrics across relevant funds
  • Contribute to product development by conducting research and working with investment teams to create social equality-related investment parameters where relevant
  • Coordinate and align with BMO Financial Group on public commitments related to social themes to ensure consistent and cohesive external messaging
  • Represent BMO GAM in the public domain on macro social issues including at industry conferences, media interviews and public articles and blogs
  • Provides strategic input into business decisions as a subject matter expert
  • Makes recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the thematic area, portfolio or investment sector
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies
  • Network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices
  • Presents results of group studies to a broad audience, both internally and externally as needed
  • May generally, interact with large and complex clients, territories, issues and relationships
  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders
  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues
  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports
  • Leads the execution of operational programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution
  • Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
