Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or three years of experience in area to be taught
• Must have knowledge of the principles of teaching
• Ability to communicate complex information to people of diverse cultures and educational backgrounds
• If assigned to Lactation: requires a Lactation certification and one year lactation experience
• If assigned to Maternal Child Health: requires Heartsaver AED; the three years experience must be teaching perinatal community classes.

Responsibilities

• Provides scheduled educational classes as assigned using approved curriculum
• Maintains clinical competency
• Responsible for the delivery of courteous, efficient, quality health care to clients, including patient satisfaction
• Ensures adequate supplies of educational supplies and materials for the classes
• Works with clerical support staff to obtain needed supplies and materials
• Works in conjunction with the healthcare team to support and educate patients and public about lactation and breastfeeding
• Prioritizes patient referrals based on severity of patient need
• Maintains communication with healthcare team to ensure identified lactation or breastfeeding problems are addressed and/or followed up on
• Utilizes resources to ensure patients receive post discharge care if needed
• Attends required Department meetings and in-services
• Maintains strict confidentiality
• Displays an attitude that supports Kaweah Health values and department efforts and teamwork
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area
• Performs other duties as assigned.
