Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one jurisdiction
  • Experience designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including drilling and well construction; standard field sampling procedures for soil, rock, sediments, surface water, and groundwater; and aquifer tests
  • Familiarity with the use of hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide variety of external clients, subcontractors, regulators and others
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists from multiple disciplines to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Help support Barr’s growing work in the intermountain west
  • Conduct hydrogeologic characterization, groundwater management, feasibility studies, environmental permitting, and remediation
  • Design investigations for the collection of hydrogeological field data and conduct associated data interpretation/evaluation
  • Provide technical guidance on operational groundwater management issues
  • Conduct ASR/MAR studies and implementation
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., geochemists, hydrogeologists, hydrologists) on modeling studies
  • Support projects across Barr’s client portfolio, including mining, power, fuels, manufacturing and/or public sector clients
  • Engage in business development activities including building and maintaining client relationships, contributing to marketing campaigns and conducting client outreach, fostering project opportunities, contributing to proposals and presentations, professional networking, and sharing Barr’s capabilities with existing and potential clients
  • Mentor and develop staff
  • Participate in meetings and negotiations with clients, regulatory agency personnel, and other stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology; experience or coursework or continuing education related to groundwater chemistry and solute fate and transport
  • Experience developing technical analyses for mine dewatering design and operations, including pit slope depressurization, general dewatering practices, and site-wide water management
  • Knowledge of the CCR rules and programs and experience with groundwater monitoring network certifications, clean closure assessments and impoundment closure plans, design, and implementation
  • Working experience with numerical groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW, MOLDFLOW-SUFACT, Groundwater Vistas, GMS, or FEFLOW
  • Experience with federal and/or state water regulatory programs in one or more intermountain west states
  • Recognized expertise in hydrogeology, demonstrated by regularly presenting at conferences and/or publishing
