Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 2 years of minimum required related experience (for Engineer II)
  • 4 years of minimum required related experience (for Engineer III)
  • A Master of Science Degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Responsibilities

  • Supports mobile substation installations as needed
  • Leads or participates in Root Cause Investigations (ie. RCA, ACA, BCA)
  • Serves as point of contact for outages and equipment mis operations
  • Provides outage analysis, documentation, and follow-up
  • Provides input on scope and collaborates with project teams on Transmission construction projects
  • Provides equipment troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Represent Duke Energy as a technical expert for escalated customer outage and service quality issues
  • Serves as technical point of contact with regional distribution engineering for contingency load planning, emergencies, and outages
  • Supports plant outages or specific plant projects by serving as plant interface for Asset Management
  • Assists System Performance in the evaluation of performance and reliability of Transmission assets in assigned region
  • Supports Project Manager on emergent/failed equipment projects (scope and estimates)
  • Assists with prioritizing scoring of one-off reliability projects
  • Prepare major outage (>1 million CMI) presentations and facilitate discussion with transmission leadership
  • Lead effort to determine whether to repair versus replace equipment
  • Provide support for corrective maintenance including priority and risk evaluation as necessary
  • Works with System Intelligence to provide health evaluations and interpretation of equipment test results
  • Supports equipment commissioning
  • Provides feedback to the appropriate Engineering organization on first-time equipment deployment
  • Supports Equipment Strategy with making changes to proactive maintenance tasks
  • Assists Equipment Strategy in developing maintenance PM priorities
  • Serves on Duke Energy teams to provide asset-related experience and knowledge
  • Assists in providing guidance on job plans and procedures
  • Assists SMEs with performing substation, mobile (portable), and equipment condition assessments
  • Works with System Intelligence and Equipment SME to Support and analyze Condition Based Monitoring equipment
  • Provide C&M with ArcFlash calculations when requested
  • Provide input and guidance to the Claims Department for damage claims related to transmission events
  • Provide third level of support after C&M Supervisor and TSS with grounding work method interpretations.

  • Increasingly proficient in principles of project management
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department
  • Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles
  • Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Expert working knowledge of the transmission system and associated safety policies, practices, and work procedures
