Requirements
- Advanced 3D CAD and mechanical design. SolidWorks experience is required
- 5 years of senior product design experience
- 10 years of advanced design of mechanical/ electro-mechanical assemblies, embedded industry preferred
- Design of sheetmetal, machined parts, cable assemblies, and/or harnesses
- Working knowledge of fasteners, press-in hardware, adhesives and assembly methods
- Knowledge of materials (aluminum, plastics, copper …) and finishes (anodizing, painting, plating…)
- Basic structural and fluid dynamics
- Basic thermal and airflow calculations
- Knowledge in designing for thermal / vibration /shock applications
- Understanding of product design for outdoor, dynamic or harsh environments. Military product design highly desirable
- Familiarity with MIL standards. Strong preference to experience with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461
- Knowledge of experience in Injection molding, Thermoform, Casting and other high-volume production methods desirable
- Experience with cable harnesses, wiring and cable management products and cable drawings
- Experience with specifying or selecting wire size, wire type, terminals and crimping requirements, electrical terminations
- Knowledge of UL requirements for safety of electronic assemblies desirable
- Ability to develop test plans, fixtures and conduct in-house systems and basic testing. Support activities at external testing facilities (thermal, vibration, shock, EMI…)
- Knowledge or experience in basic PCB layout and design desirable
- Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management system desirable
- Strong engineering skills with internal team project management duties
- Ability to multi-task and manage various project related duties
- Ability to determine/initiate tasks
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions for near and long-term resolution
- Conduct internal design reviews and interface directly with customer or internal departments regarding product requirements and details
- Hands on involvement with manufacturing group evaluating prototypes of new products and implementing improvements in the design for manufacturability
- Ability to work with component vendors and outside manufacturing contractors to resolve process and design issues
- Knowledge of Bill of Materials structure and documentation standards (ANSI Y14.5)
- Check engineering drawings and evaluate tolerances
- Create assembly and part drawings
- Proficient with Microsoft suite of applications: Excel, Project, PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
- Must be able to self-organize workloads and manage all deadlines
Responsibilities
- Lead design engineer
- Conceptual design, 3D modeling, part and assembly level drawings
- Engineering project management
- Develop product design schedules and cost estimates
- Support engineering releases and revisions
- Support development testing and validation
- Analyze failures and recommend corrective action
- Hands on prototype validation
- Vendor and internal department liaison
- Contribute to improvement of corporate engineering standards and processes
- Development of corporate engineering standards and processes
- Performance requires physical attendance and may require limited travel
