Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% domestically to testing sites in MI and AZ.
  • Familiarity with export/global regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Understanding of technical, legal, and political aspects.
  • Strong negotiating skills; persuasive and diplomatic.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, especially with government authorities.
  • Effective meeting organization and conduct.
  • Independent judgment, accuracy, creativity, and initiative.
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues requiring leadership attention.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for assigned regulations affecting GMNA export programs.
  • Advise engineering and design teams on regulatory requirements.
  • Assess the impact of new regulations on vehicle programs.
  • Maintain and update GM’s regulatory database.
  • Issue clear and timely regulatory communications.
  • Anticipate future regulatory requirements and assess their impact.
  • Collaborate with global regulatory colleagues to develop best practices.
  • Conduct visual regulatory reviews and report findings.
  • Train stakeholders on regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in regulatory checklist reviews at key milestones.
  • Support product investigations as needed.
  • Plan and execute type approval/certification activities for GMNA exports.
  • Communicate annual type approval/certification timelines to stakeholders.
  • Negotiate with technical agencies to streamline witness testing and reduce costs.
  • Maintain and refine documentation databases and templates.
  • Lead GMNA-based witness testing for assigned programs.
  • Support the development and refinement of in-house test procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of active safety and telematic technologies.
  • Graduate degree.
  • Financial acuity.
  • Experience as a Regulatory/Certification Engineer, Design Release Engineer, or in Validation.
  • Familiarity with assembly plant processes.
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
