Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Masters or PhD will consider with less experience
- 8+ years of VCE experience in the automotive industry
- Proficiency in virtual commissioning software – Siemens Process Simulate and Plant Simulate (Tecnomatix) and/or Rockwell Automation Emulate3D
- Basic to intermediate capability in 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or CATIA
- Experience in designing, programming, commissioning of automation systems for discrete manufacturing, preferably in the automotive industry
- Knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs and Fanuc Robots
- Knowledge of interfacing PLCs with robots including standard and safety IO to manage robot program execution, prevent collisions, and ensure operator safety
- Familiarity with commonly used process and material handling components such as sensors, clamps, crowders, lift-and-locates, conveyors, AGVs, gantries, turntables
- Familiarity with commonly used safety system components such as safety relays, light curtains, area scanners, guard monitoring and guard locking devices
- Knowledge of equipment safety standards such as ISO12100, ISO 13849 and ISO 10218
- Strong organization skills – tracking schedule and open items, creating meeting agendas and minutes
- Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate clearly and professionally at various levels both inside and outside the company
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
Responsibilities
- Be proficient in virtual commissioning of automation systems Define the scope and deliverables of virtual commissioning during equipment development and continuous improvement projects
- Create standards and guidelines for equipment suppliers to develop digital twins and perform virtual commissioning. Standards to include choice of software, architecture (Hardware-in-loop / Software-in-loop), methods, and required outputs for the virtual commissioning exercise
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers during all phases of equipment development to leverage the benefits of simulation for evaluating cycle time, detecting interferences, and optimizing process sequences
- Perform in-house testing of supplier models and provide feedback to their automation teams on deficiencies or improvement opportunities
- Manage a repository of digital twins for automation systems deployed in the factory
- Support the manufacturing engineering team in evaluating changes to automation systems, including running multiple what-if scenarios on the digital twin
