Requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Deep Knowledge of ERISA and Regulatory Compliance: Extensive experience with ERISA regulations, DOL and IRS requirements, and Form 5500 filings to ensure the plan’s compliance and avoid penalties. Familiarity with fiduciary responsibilities and trust accounting is essential.
- Advanced Financial and Audit Expertise: Strong background in financial reporting under GAAP, managing audits, and implementing internal controls specific to benefit plans. Experience overseeing complex financial statements and resolving audit findings is crucial.
- Strong Leadership and Team Management Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting and audit professionals. Skills in setting clear objectives, fostering collaboration, and managing performance to ensure high-quality deliverables under tight deadlines.
- Strategic Problem-Solving and Risk Management: Experience in identifying and mitigating financial and compliance risks, with the ability to analyze complex issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain robust controls to protect plan assets.
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with auditors, finance managers, third-party administrators, and senior leadership. Proficiency in translating technical, financial, and compliance details into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Compliance with ERISA Regulations: Oversee adherence to ERISA requirements, including timely filing of Form 5500, maintaining fiduciary responsibility, and ensuring plan operations align with DOL and IRS regulations.
- Oversee Financial Reporting and Auditing: Manage the preparation of accurate financial statements for the plan, coordinating annual audits, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and ERISA-specific reporting standards.
- Monitor Plan Funding and Expenses: Supervise the accounting of contributions, benefits payments, and administrative expenses, ensuring proper allocation of funds and maintaining the plan’s financial integrity.
- Manage Internal Controls and Risk: Develop and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard plan assets, mitigating fraud risks, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, and addressing audit findings by implementing corrective actions.
- Communicate with Stakeholders and Vendors: Act as the primary point of contact for auditors, actuaries, corporate accountants, finance managers, and third-party administrators, ensuring clear communication and alignment on plan objectives, financial performance, and compliance requirements.
- Lead and Develop a Team of Professionals: Oversee and manage a team of accounting and audit professionals, setting goals, tracking performance, providing feedback, and fostering professional development opportunities.
