Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical/civil/structural preferred) in a program accredited by ABET
- Individuals with a Master’s degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level
- Acceptable alternatives include: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
Responsibilities
- Perform calculations for new and revised standard steel structures and foundations.
- Prepare structural standards application and design guideline documents.
- Provide QA/QC on structure and foundation drawing creation.
- Provide structural engineering support for substation capital projects.
- Develop design alternatives and cost estimates for proposed standards.
- Work effectively with internal and external customers, and contractors.
- Work with Substation production design teams, Protection and Control Standards, Transmission Line Design Standards, Distribution, Supply Chain and others as needed for successful completion of duties.
- Supervise and review work of outside consultants as needed.
- Provide leadership and training of personnel as the subject matter expert in assigned area(s), or as otherwise requested.
- Participate in the development of plans establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements relative to specific area of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of current industry standards such as ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWS, and NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) Code is desired.
