Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in Controls Engineering or a related field
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work optimally with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work off shifts, both 2nd and 3rd
  • Background or interest in working on vehicle builds, robotics, and vision systems
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, particularly to translate highly complex technical issues to non-technical people
  • Able to make decisions quickly with a high level of confidence

Responsibilities

  • Maintain robotic and vision system integration throughout the body shop
  • Responsible for responding and problem-solving vision system faults that impact throughput
  • Setting, monitoring, and maintaining control limits ensuring the production build stays within specified dimensional tolerances
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to outside vendor sources and maintenance personnel
  • Assist in developing and testing advanced production vision process technology
  • Complete required training at sites around GM and suppliers (some travel may be required)
  • Create actionable items resulting from vision system failures
  • Lead corrective action plans to include implementation and oversight
  • Conduct training courses both in a classroom setting and on the job training relating to vehicle production vision systems for body shop team members

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Controls Engineering or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering or a related field
  • Thorough working knowledge of GMS including BIQ4 Deliverables
  • Experience in a shop environment working with multiple levels within an organization
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing requirements and how they impact the build process
  • Prior manufacturing plant experience in either controls engineering or robotics
