Senior Gas Trader

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree Emphasis in economics, accounting, business administration, engineering, or related area Preferred
• 3 years of experience in energy trading, scheduling, risk management, forecasting, engineering, or equivalent analytical or financial experience
• Demonstrated understanding of public utility economics, operations and market economics and finance concepts preferred
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management)

Responsibilities

• Solicits bids for and negotiates the purchase and sale of physical natural gas commodity for periods up to 60 days in advance
• Monitors reports, electronic bulletin boards, and interacts with contacts at pipeline companies to track key volume activity accounts (imbalance, storage levels, etc.) and takes corrective action as necessary
• Implements strategies developed by leadership for minimizing ratepayer gas costs
• Tracks costs, profits and savings from negotiations and trades for management and accounting reporting
• Assists in the negotiation of interstate pipeline contracts
• Schedules gas on the interstate pipelines and monitors system demand to adjust supplies as necessary, including weekend and holiday coverage
• Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities
