Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field
- 5 years of engineering experience with Performance analysis of systems or components for on and off highway machines and vehicles, gas and diesel engines, or gas and diesel power systems or related occupation
- In the alternative, a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field and 2 years of engineering experience with Performance analysis of systems or components for on and off highway machines and vehicles, gas and diesel engines, or gas and diesel power systems or related occupation
- 1-year concurrent experience in 1D system simulation or CFD of machines and/or engine power systems for diesel or gas engines
- Simulation result presentations and reports
- Experience with GT-Suite, AMESim, or other system modeling software
- Experience with Fluent, Star-CCM+, Simerics, OpenFOAM or other CFD software
- Experience with Hypermesh, ANSA, or other mesh generation software
- Experience with Ensight, ParaView, or other similar post-processing software
Responsibilities
- Utilize analytical techniques (1-D and 3-D simulation tools) to provide simulation support for electrification projects across various Caterpillar platforms as well as cooling performance simulation for diesel-powered applications
- Conduct 1-D system simulation for upfront system sizing and component selection for cooling systems
- Perform high-end Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation for virtual design and validation
- Provide analysis and simulation to develop and deploy technologies for battery/fuel cell thermal management
- Collaborate with product development teams to deliver validated design solutions to program deliverables and timelines
- Conduct application-specific cooling system analysis projects, develop cooling system layouts, component selection, sizing and optimizing the cooling air and water systems using 1-D simulation tools
- Collaborate with design partners to meet technical and regulatory requirements
- Conduct component CFD to determine performance characteristics
- Develop CFD models to understand airflow through cooling packages
- Develop underhood thermal CFD models to predict component temperatures
- Collaborate with test engineers and correlate analysis models
- Perform analysis to assist in resolving cooling-related field problems
- Contribute to improvements in simulation methods and processes
- Help establish technical requirements and specifications for new products
