Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field, or combination of relevant education and experience.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in a high volume machining environment.
- Proficient in CNC machining processes, CNC programming, cutting tools, work holding and precision gauging.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and NX/SolidWorks software.
- Proficient in SPC and data analysis.
- Experience in gear cutting (shaping process preferred).
- Mastercam proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Develops manufacturing equipment purchase proposals by studying manufacturing plans and commitments, evaluating manufacturing processes and requirements.
- Assists with part quote preparation by providing investment and part cost estimates.
- Recommends new manufacturing equipment by identifying vendors and operating equipment, evaluating technical capabilities and service history, evaluating vendor service and support.
- Completes equipment cost projections by analyzing investment, return, and savings.
- Leads equipment installations by working with other departments and advising crews.
- Ensures processes meet AAM safety standards and implement countermeasures as needed.
- Meets production requirements by designing equipment modifications as needed.
- Prepares workforce by conducting training, providing references and support resources.
- Maintains process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
- Maintains equipment records by filing documents, updating equipment database.
- Monitors and reports tool performance, optimize tool life and balance tool change frequency with the goal of reducing tooling cost per unit.
- Monitors and reports production scrap and implement projects to maintain within budget.
- Protects organization value by keeping information confidential, cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
- Involves in daily production issues to identify and solve problems using 8D’s, 5 Why’s and similar systematic problem-solving methods.
- Creates and maintains process drawings, routings, PFMEA and Control Plans.
- Designs tools and work holding using CAD/CAM (AutoCAD and NX).
- Employs manual machining on lathes, drills or use 3d printers to create solutions.
- Tools up new machine and set up processes.
- Monitors and maintains complex auto gauges, rabbits, and auto-comps logic to ensure reliable operation.
- Collaborates with supplier and stakeholders to carry out Kaizen projects.
- Works with suppliers on most up to date tooling, work holding, gauging, and machines for assigned processes.
- Tracks and maintains automation performance to achieve material handling goals.
- Identifies and eliminates waste from value stream.
- Works with operations to meet and exceed OEE expectations.
- Works with plant/corporate IE to meet and improve capacity, material handling, and packaging requirements.
- Works with advanced/corporate engineering and sales to support prototype projects.
- Maintains processes and documentation to meet or exceed quality requirements per IATF 16949, customer specific requirements and AAM quality standards.
- Participates in safety and internal/external quality audits.
- Sets up spare parts for new and existing product lines.
- Specifies and maintains coolant and lubricants to maintain optimal performance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six sigma certification.
- Robotic and PLC programming.
- Experience with Fanuc and Siemens CNC.
- 5S experience.
